REGIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD-2015 - RESULTS

The Regional Mathematical Oympiad , which aims to spot talented students in Mathematics, will be conducted on December 1. The centres in Kerala are Thiruvanathapuram, Kollam, Kottarakkara, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kannur.

Students of standards XI and XII and a few “exceptionally talented” students of Standard X are eligible to take part in the Olympiad, which is conducted by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM).

Syllabus

The syllabus will roughly be of the Plus Two level. Thrust areas will be Geometry, Number Theory, Algebra and Combinatorics. There is no prescribed syllabus, but the questions will be challenging.

Nearly 20 students will be selected for the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad, which will be held on the campus of Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in February 2014.

Some 30 national-level toppers and award winners will be invited for a training camp to select an Indian team for the International Mathematical Olympiad 2014 to be held in South Africa.

Application

There is no prescribed application form.

Principals of recognised schools should forward by October 15 lists of participants, including details such as their names, class, residential address, phone numbers, e-mail and the centre, along with a registration fee of Rs. 50 each by demand draft (drawn in favour of Regional Coordinator, INMO payable at SBT Cusat campus branch).

Prizes on offer to the best performers include five cash prizes of Rs. 5,000 each sponsored by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, five “Professor C.S. Venkataraman Memorial Prizes” and many gifts. All students selected for the National Olympiad will be awarded merit certificates and be eligible for scholarships offered by the NBHM for higher studies.

MOHAN NANDAKUMAR TOPS THE REGIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD-2013

31 students qualified RMO from Kerala.

Mohan Nandakumar (Saraswathi Vidyanikethan School, Elamakkara, Cochin) has topped the Regional Mathematical Olympiad coordinated by the Department of Mathematics , CUSAT  and organized by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India ,  held at 8 centres in Kerala on December 1, 2013 .

The central RMO will be held on December 01, 2013. RMO for those regions not opting for the central RMO will be held on date decided by the concerned Regional Coordinator, but this date will be no later than December 15, 2013.

Students from Class XI and XII are eligible to appear for the RMO. Highly motivated and well prepared students from Class X may also take the RMO at the discretion of the Regional Coordinator.

The Regional Mathematical Olympiad for Kerala Region will be held on 01.12.2013. Examination fee for the RMO is Rs. 50/- per candidate. Fee is to be paid by Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of Regional Co-ordinator,INMO payable at State Bank of Travancore, CUSAT Campus.

The total fees of all the students appearing from a school should preferably be paid by sending a single Demand Draft. The last date for sending the completed application form along with the Demand Draft of all the students participating from school is 15th October 2013.

Five toppers of RMO will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 5000/- for each candidate sponsored by the Kerala state council for science, technology, and environment.

Exam Co-ordinated by the Department of Mathematics at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), the event was organised by the National Board for Higher Mathematics under the Department of Atomic Energy.
